District InformationPatrol Line The Audubon Security District is an entity separate and distinct from the Audubon Area Zoning Association. It was founded in 2002 after ratification by area voters to implement a steady security patrol shared by all within its boundaries. The AAZA is the sponsoring organization. All properties within the perimeter of: Exposition Boulevard to St. Charles Avenue to Arabella Street to Hurst Street to Nashville Avenue to Prytania Street and back to Exposition Boulevard. Officers are on duty 24-hours each day. Some of these shifts are shared patrols with the Upper Hurstville Security District that abuts the AASD at Prytania Street. The patrol is funded by an annual parcel fee on each property in the district collected annually with your city property taxes. The Board of Commissioners is comprised of nine residents within the district. The majority of these Commissioners is appointed by the AAZA Board. The AASD Commission sets the policies regarding safety measures, approves contracts and sets the budget each year. The Executive Director manages the daily aspects of the District. Dear Audubon Area Neighbors: Happy New Year! We hope this newsletter finds you happy and healthy. A few updates and reminders are in order. Again, this year, AASD continued to share patrol coverage with Upper Hurstville Security District. Based on neighborhood feedback, the officers continue to be responsive to all calls for service. Overall, crime in the neighborhood is low and Audubon and Upper Hurstville continue to be two of the safest areas of the city. An exception to this is the recent burglary and shooting near State and Prytania where the AASD/ UHSD patrol and the Second District NOPD responded quickly and the suspect was taken into custody. The patrol reports to date show that officers have conducted hundreds of property checks, in addition to hundreds of regular safe walk/escort calls, a few car thefts and several car break-ins in addition to several medical emergency calls, suspicious person checks, and vehicular accidents. Throughout the year, they continue to report to the city the many light outages and other safety issues. PLEASE REMEMBER TO: LOCK YOUR CAR and REMOVE ALL ITEMS. You, your family members and your neighbors will all be safer if criminals are not attracted by an opportunity that could have been avoided. And NOPD can focus on the more serious crimes in the city rather than spending time preparing these reports. ADD the AASD number (504-460-6677) as well as theNOPD numbers to your home alarm list as first responder contact numbers in case of emergency. The patrol officers can often be there faster than the NOPD to help control the situation. Adding the patrol number to your cell phone is helpful as well. USE use the patrol’s escort service and give the AASD patrol number to your visitors to use whenever possible or to report unusual activity orcrime. Escorts can help prevent a would-be criminal from taking advantage of a situation and allow the officer to become more familiar with your property and better able to protect you. JOIN the AASD email list. If you already receive emails from us, you are all set. If not, please send an email with your name and address to audubonsecurity@bellsouth.net to receive security and neighborhood announcements. AASD 2025 Budget The AASD Board of Commissioners approved the 2025 Budget at a public hearing earlier this year. The Commissioner voted in favor of the budget, including a request to the City Council of New Orleans to levy an annual $550 parcel fee against all taxable real property located within the District. This fee is included on your property tax bill sent by the city to all property owners. AASD Board of Commissioners: Glenn Adams – President, Skye McLeod - Vice President, Susan Jaubert - Secretary/ Treasurer, Jack Little, Jim Neiset, Drew Ramsey, Adam Wirth and Ann Koppel.
